Do a Little Research

A great place to start is with your band’s Youtube channel. Listening to their take on songs gives you a sense of their style and can provide a lot of inspiration on what you’d like to hear them play. And who knows? You might even hear the perfect processional song!

Know the Standards

Every ensemble has a list of songs they regularly play. While most groups give you the chance to ask for a few songs that aren’t on the list, take a look at what they already know to see if any of those songs feel like the right fit for those special moments of your wedding. Starting with all the songs in the world can feel overwhelming but starting with a curated list (link to curated song list blog?) can combat decision fatigue and feel much more manageable.

Make it Personal

Now that you’ve looked at everything the group already offers, you might be looking for the perfect off-list request song. The day is all about you and your partner and the love you share. Think about songs that remind you of your partner and your relationship. Was there a song playing the first time you met? Or when you got engaged? Maybe you went to a concert together and sang along to your favorite song. Songs that hold a special memory for both of you will be even more meaningful when played on your wedding day.

Get Introspective

Still having trouble? Take a scroll through your playlists and look for your favorite songs and artists. Is there a song that immediately puts you in a good mood? Who is your most listened to band? What album would you take with you to a desert island? This day only happens once so choose something you really like!

Ask the Experts

If all else fails, reach out to your band! As both musicians and music lovers, they can provide suggestions and help guide you in the right direction.
