Allison & Maicom

My first impression of Maicom was, ‘Thank god he isn’t a weirdo, he probably won’t kill me, and he’s really good looking’

Now parents of a 9 month old daughter (who loves the xylophone), SpeechLess couple Allison and Maicom look back at their 2018 wedding. Formal yet relaxed, rustic yet elegant, this isn’t your typical vineyard wedding.

How did you two meet?

We actually met through Tinder. I was 25 and Maicom was 26. We met for the first time on January 15th-ish, 2015 at Mijas in Faneuil Hall. We decided that we would lie to everyone and tell them we met at a bar. To this day, a lot of people still don’t know.

My first impression of Maicom was, “Thank god he isn’t a weirdo, he probably won’t kill me, and he’s really good looking”. Maicom’s first impression of me was that I was really cool and he decided that he wouldn’t kill me.

When he first said “I love you”, we were driving along Revere Beach after going to Deer Island. I knew I loved him too and was too scared to say it first.

One of my best friends married us (one night at a party she got ordained and we laughed about how she could marry us - she has now literally married all of us)

How did you find your venue?

We originally wanted to rent a giant house in the woods and have our wedding there. We went on a 4 hour road trip to upstate to see [a potential venue]. We were 30 mins away when we got caught in a legit blizzard! We turned around and decided it wasn’t meant to be. Thank god, because after that I stumbled upon Newport Vineyards in Middletown, RI.

Their wine was delicious, the food was amazing and the entire place was beautiful. We could have it mostly outdoors and it wasn’t too “wedding-y”.

One thing that was very unique and perfect was the hotel that is right next door. The East Island Reserve Hotel. They have these beautiful brand new tiny homes they call cottages. It was important to have somewhere that we could stay close by with our closest friends and family.

What was the planning process like?

My dream job would probably be a wedding/party planner. I love organizing and I was marrying the perfect guy so, this was truly my dream come true! Maicom let me take the lead on most things (because he knew I had such good taste). We wanted something relaxed and not stuffy or formal. I didn’t want it to feel like typical wedding. Maicom really wanted great food and music and he definitely got those. We also loved Maris, the coordinator at Newport Vineyards. She was such a highlight of going with the venue.

Tell us about the big day

[It was] a perfect September day; sunny with a little breeze and not too hot. It wasn’t formal but not super casual. Somewhere in the middle. The ceremony was outside, in a clearing among the grapes. We wanted something short and simple.

One of my best friends married us (one night at a party she got ordained and we laughed about how she could marry us - she has now literally married all of us). The highlight of the ceremony for both of us was when SpeechLess played “Here Comes the Sun” when I walked down the aisle. It was just perfect and made it all feel so real.

Cocktail hour was outside on the patio where we had fire pits later on. My brother made us a beautiful hand made cornhole game.

The reception was inside, with access to the patio. We dreaded our first dance, but agreed that as long as we were doing it together, who cares! We found our song, “Unforgettable” by Sia while watching the movie “Finding Dory”. We looked at each other and said how much we loved the song and knew it was perfect.

The room was rustic, but not too rustic. There were a lot of flowers, candles and lace to add some feminine touches. Everything else was left natural, simple and gorgeous. I guess it was kinda garden rustic. I don’t know - it was just really pretty and the best day of my life.

Any other vendors you’d like to highlight?

We had such amazing vendors, I don’t have any negative things to say or regrets about anything. We just went with our gut and it really worked out.

We found our amazing photographer, Carl Heyerdahl on facebook. He was so laid back, and exactly our style. He isn’t into posed pictures and really captured the story of our day.

Our florist, Wild Dahlia was amazing. I had no idea how to explain the vision in my head and flowers were really important to me. She blew me away with everything from the flowers in my hair [to the boutonnières we had to alter].

My hair and makeup by Bella Beauty Bridal was exactly what I wanted and all of us loved everything.

Isis Cakes [made us the] best cake we - and many of our guests - have ever eaten! And it was beautiful.

SpeechLess Music stood out to us. They not only sounded amazing but they had a great party, fun and laid back vibe. They were so easy to work with, organized and thoughtful. We knew that everyone would have fun with them and they would sound great.

We loved working with you all and you made our day perfect. We are so thankful for you and everyone else for putting so much love into our day.

THE SOUNDTRACK

Walked down the aisle to… Here Comes The Sun / The Beatles

First dance song… Unforgettable / Sia

Father/daughter song… Circle Game / Joanie Mitchell

My dad chose our song. He loves music and is a big Joanie Mitchell fan.

Mother/son song… Velha Infancia / Tribalistas

Maicom chose the song he and his aunt danced to (his mom lives in Brazil and could not attend). He later told me he would’ve chosen “Velha Infancia” for our first dance and I would have had to agree, I love it.

Any favorite musical moments?

Maicom’s uncle pulled his chair super close to the band and sat there and just had the time of his life! He told us after that he had the loved the music and really appreciated it.
